For the last several days, all the media is fixated on the nine shooting victims in South Carolina exhorting people to pray for them. A question occurs to me: Why? They are dead and beyond any help from whatever they are praying to is expected to do. Nearly all Christians of whatever stripe teach they have been finally judged immediately and sent on their way to eternal reward or punishment either temporary or permanent. Perhaps they think there is some heavenly supreme court that might overturn somehow the initial final judgement and their Supreme Being on reconsideration reverse the original verdict. This should kind of destroy their original belief in an all knowing and omniscient father figure. Anyway, pray for them. But just ignore the 21+ or so other people shot and killed in homicides in the US on the same day. Or the 50 or so killed by guns either accidentally or self inflicted suicide every day. By reading FBI statistics on gun injury and/or death one gets the impression the country is nothing more than an NRA slaughterhouse.
